Organized by the University of California, Santa Barbara's Orfalea Center for Global and International Studies on February 25-27, 2016. This workshop feature scholars doing work at the cutting edge of Environmental Justice Studies and the emergent field of Climate Justice Studies with the goal of initiating lively conversations among people who are deeply involved in these areas of research with scholarship and ideas that represent clear opportunities for deepening, expanding, and developing these fields in new directions. The workshop session on “Creating New Fields: Expanding Climate Justice Studies and Environmental Justice Studies” was an unqualified success. This session was part of the “Environmental Justice/Climate Justice” Hub, which featured some of the nation’s leading scholars across the environmental social sciences and humanities. When we examined the disciplinary backgrounds of all faculty and student participants and attendees, we determined that our Hub workshops represented 20 distinct fields of inquiry—evidence that our sessions appealed to a broad spectrum of scholarly emphases across the academy.
